O mne
Volám sa Jozef Špak a narodil som sa 5. februára 1959 v Kežmarku. S drevom som spätý už od detstva. Počas základnej školy som sa zúčastňoval rôznych výstav vrátane medzinárodných, kde som získaval viaceré prvenstvá a iné ocenenia.
V rokoch 1974 – 1978 som pokračoval v štúdiu na ŠUPKE v Bratislave u zaslúžilého umelca a profesora Ludwika Korkoša a spolupracoval som s ním na viacerých sochárskych projektoch. Štúdium som rozšíril i o reštaurovanie a konzervovanie dreva.
About me
My name is Jozef Špak and I was born on 5 February 1959 in Kežmarok, Slovakia. I have been connected with wood since my earliest childhood. Already at elementary school I took part in various exhibitions, including international ones, where I won several first prizes and other awards.
From 1974 to 1978 I studied at ŠUP, the School of Applied Arts in Bratislava, under the merited artist and Professor Ludwik Korkoš, and worked with him on several sculptural projects. My studies also covered the restoration and conservation of wood. In 1982 I helped to found restoration studios across Slovakia, above all in Levoča, where I led a restoration team specialising in polychrome wooden artefacts. It was a great honour to work with the eminent academic painter and restorer Andrej Kuc.
In 1992 I became independent. Since then I have been restoring and conserving wood (altars, sculptures and other artefacts) and also creating original artworks, mainly in wood. My work is inspired by the beauty of nature, folklore, women and religious themes.
If you are interested in my artworks, or need help restoring a piece you already own, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Februar 1959 in Kežmarok (Slowakei) geboren.
